Institute’s goal lies in a systemic, fundamental and applied research of historical, cultural, social, economic, political, religious as well as inter-civilizational and intercultural aspects of relations between Kazakhstan and the countries of the Orient.
Institute's main research objectives include:
identification, study, and introduction to scientific use of new Eastern and Western European written, archival and oral materials, artifacts related to the history, religion and culture of Kazakhstan, peoples of Central Asia and the Orient;
complex and systemic study of issues of interaction between political, economic, ethnic and cultural systems of Eastern and Western countries within the context of Kazakhstan’s priority initiatives for development of Eurasian vector;
development of areas identified by the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the study of current status and prospects of bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Asia-Pacific, Near and Middle East, South and Central Asian countries;
research and analysis of political, economic, historical and cultural aspects of Oriental societies’ transformation associated with the contemporary processes of globalization and regionalization;
comparative analysis of inter-ethnic, inter-religious and inter-cultural processes in Kazakhstan and Western Europe within the context of Kazakhstan's initiatives to strengthen dialogue between Muslim world and the West;
complex and systemic study of theoretical-methodological and practical aspects of ethnic politics and migration processes in the countries of Eurasia;
development of new approaches to the formation of global consciousness of cultural diversity within the context of coordinated efforts of international community to strengthen cultural security.
