History of Institute’s Foundation
R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies under the Committee of Science at the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan is country’s leading scientific-research centre of oriental studies.
The Institute was founded according to the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1369 dated November 11, 1996 “On Establishment of Institute of Oriental Studies under the Ministry of Science – Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan” by amalgamation of the Centre of Oriental Studies under the Ministry of Science – Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Institute of Uighur Studies under the Ministry of Science – Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In order to immortalize the remembrance of Academician Ramazan Bimashevich Suleimenov, an outstanding historian, founder of Kazakhstani culturology as well as of scientific school of domestic orientalists, the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 375 dated April 21, 1998 has designated the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Ministry of Science – Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the name of Academician R.B. Suleimenov.
