Astana (before May 6, 1998-Akmola) was declared as the capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan on December 10, 1997 by the Decree of the President, dated October 20, 1997 and with the approval of the Parliament of Kazakhstan. International presentation of the new capital of Kazakhstan –Astana was held on June 10, 1998.
