
On June 1, 1946 was held the opening of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR. The decree «On the establishment of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR» was accepted May 31, 1946. At the first general meeting of the first president of the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan was elected Kanysh Satpayev. The first part of the academy, which included prominent figures of science, technology and culture of Kazakhstan academicians Mukhtar Auezov, Abiken Bekturov, Hilarion Galouzeau, Mikhail Goryaev, Ahmet Zhubanov, Nicholas Cassin, Smet Kenesbay, Nikolai Pavlov, Mikhail Rusakov, Nygmet Sauranbayev etc. was approved. The National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan was established on the basis of the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. In October of the same year Kanysh Satpayev was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the department of geological and geographical sciences and became not only the first Kazakh academician, but also the first academician among the scientists of the Central Asian region of the USSR. The main content of the activities of young Kazakhstan Academy of Sciences is a comprehensive study of the problems of the economy and culture of the country, primarily intensive use rich mineral natural resources of the country. In the Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan at the time of its formation included 16 research institutes, consisting of 8 sectors, 7 scientific and practical stations and three botanical gardens.
