Alma-Ata studio of feature and news films was renamed into the “Kazakhfilm” studio in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Culture of the Kazakh SSR.

Alma-Ata studio of feature and news films was renamed into the “Kazakhfilm” studio in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Culture of the Kazakh SSR on January 9, 1960. Beginning from the June 27, 2006, the new name of the studio is JSC “Kazakhfilm” named after Sh. Aimanov. "Kazakhfilm" is a modern studio, equipped with the latest technology. The main activity of the studio is the production of feature films, documentaries and animated films as well as dubbing the foreign films into the Kazakh language. There is a digital complex in the studio, including the only one in Central Asia licensed studio of dubbing “Dolby”, dubbing, color correction and the equipment for convert the movies into the different formats. Moreover the studio possess the animated complex equipped with the latest technologies such as the system of motion capture, and two film studios, which are the largest in Central Asia. Within the walls of the studio was filmed – 228 feature films, 70 short feature films, 1133 documentaries and 139 animated films. In recent years at the studio "Kazakhfilm" were filmed such popular films as "The Tale of Pink Hare" by Farhat Sharipov, "Liquidator" by Akan Sataev, "Sky of My Childhood" by Rustem Abdrashov, "Snatch" by Kanagat Mustafin, "Irony of Love " by Yerzhan Rustembekov and Alexander Chernyaev. Ermek Amanshaev is the president of "Kazakhfilm" studio named after S. Aimanov since 2008.
