The art of the graphic is the ancient type of art and creative activity of people. Rock drawings from the Bronze Age found in many countries of the world are evidence to it.
A painting, a line is the base of fine arts, so the process of mastering the art of instrumentation starts here. Graphic works are the basis for the development of the national art school of European cultural type and paintings by Kulakhmetov, Khodzhikov, watercolors and drawings by Abylkhan Kasteyev and Aubakir Ismailov are the roots of it.
The exhibition devoted to the 550th anniversary of Kazakh Khanate presented the works made especially for that theme. The basic works were made by Almaty artists. These pastels are by famous artist S.Alzhanov, works in «dry point» technique by S.Taynov, compositions, made by ink and acrylic by A.Utkin, gratisography by S.Agimbayev, original works in author’s technique- drawings with a ballpoint pen on silk by O.Yessenbayev, linocuts of the known master of graphic arts, professor T.Ordabekov.
Regional artists are presented by the works in the linoleum carving technique by Karaganda artist M.Amanbayev and Shymkent artist B.Baymen. Complex multi-figure compositions, plots, connected with specific historic events of the ancient history of Kazakhstan, the portraits of historical characters, created according to the established images in people’s memories create a collective picture of Kazakhstan’s history, visualizing its famous facts and themes. Watercolor papers by R.Bertleu are sounded by a special melody in the exposition.
These abstract symbolic compositions addressed to the generalized philosophical concepts with the help of which art and plastic images of people’s national ideology are created.
The most common distinguishing feature of the graphic is the special attitude of the depicted object to space, the role of which is largely performed by the background paper (in the words of the Soviet artist of graphic V.A.Favorsky — «the air of the white sheet»). A large number of colors can be used in the graphic art, in particular, in the engravings (more than ten printed forms can be used in creating some prints, each of them «adds» own color).
Graphic art is the intellectual fine arts, intolerant to vanity and superficiality both in the reproduction of the idea and its perception. Therefore, it is less commercialized than other forms of artistic creativity. The simplicity of high life experience, the sincerity and the purity of the author’s vision are kept in it.
