LEGEND ABOUT KARAGANDA - e-history.kz

Once upon a time the greedy bay lived in the steppe. He had a lot of sheep and goats, so-called small cattle. And there was one black sheep in the flock, which bay believed to be sacred, and with special consideration took care of it. He thought that the sheep protects all of his animals and big flock. One day so happened that the black sheep did not come back in the flock. The shepherds told bay, that black sheep had to lamb, or even two, so she got lost behind the other sheep and goats. Bay became angry and ordered his shepherds to find the lost black sheep by any means. The jigits went to look for her in the darkness, and in complete darkness they surely found nothing. They wandered by moonlight, but did not succeed in their search , and then one of them said: "Wherever you go, everywhere we have already been, so this place is "Karaganda". According to the Kazakh word "Karagan", "Karaganda" means: "We've already been there, we've already seen all that!" Since then, this area is called Karaganda. Now it is a modern big city, a major coal-mining area.
