The Kazakh National Conservatory named after Kurmangazy, is the leading musical institution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which, for six decades, provides a high level of professional training, which popular in both Kazakhstan and abroad. Conservatory is first higher musical education institution in Kazakhstan. In July 24, 1944, the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR decided to organize from October 1 of the same year, the State Institute of Arts in the city of Almaty. Subsequently, it was converted by the example of Moscow and Leningrad conservatories into the Alma-Ata Conservatory. In 1945, the university was named after the outstanding Kazakh kuishi of the 19th century Kurmangazy Sagyrbaeva. At that time, the Structure of conservatory consisted of five faculties: • Historical and theoretical composition, • Vocal, • Piano, • The orchestral, • The conducting and choral, • The department of national instruments • As well as an opera studio and scientific experimental workshop for making and improvement of Kazakh folk musical instruments. In the first building, which was built in 1938, was located a music and dance combine. Then in the early 60s, another building was completed along with the dormitory with 120 residential rooms, 42 private tutors, with reading and sports halls and a spacious lounge. Today, the students, interns, graduate students and staff of the conservatory are living in this dormitory. On November 2000, the conservatory was granted an extension of the modern four-storeyed building (Abylaikhan, 86). Today, the Kazakh National Conservatory named after Kurmangazy is located in two school buildings. It offers students and teachers of the university the spacious classrooms, a chamber hall for 170 seats, a small concert hall with 236 seats, a sports hall, a reading room, a classroom subscription. The Grand Organ hall with 500 seats will be completed soon. Today, the students of the conservatory used the new instruments of the best Japanese and German firms, including electronic instruments for string quartet. The alumni of the Conservatory are engaged in the creative teams of the country (the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet named after Abay, National Opera Theater named after Kulyash Baiseitova, presidential, symphonic and wind orchestras, the chamber ensembles and orchestras of folk instruments), as well as in the educational institutions (The Kazakh National Music Academy, The Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after Zhurgenov, Women's Pedagogical Institute, numerous music colleges, schools and many others). The students of the Kazakh National Conservatory work in professional teams in both Kazakhstan and abroad, Russia, Germany, Greece, Holland, Israel, USA, France, the Czech Republic, Canada, Korea, China and many others. For the last three years within the walls of the conservatory were trained more than 50 winners of international and over 200 winners of national competitions, who adequately represent the younger generation of musical art of Kazakhstan.
