In 1936, Kostanay region was established

Administrative centre — Kostanay city. Territory — 196 thousand square km. The region borders on four regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Aktobe, Karaganda, Akmola and North-Kazakhstan regions) and three regions of the Russian Federation (Orenburg, Chelyabinsk and Rurgan regions). On June 17, 1997 by the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan the transcription of the city’s name Kustanay was changed to Kostanay, while Kustanay region — to Kostanay region. More than hundred nationalities live here.
