The second (extraordinary) nationwide elections of the President of Kazakhstan were taking place on January 10, 1999. The incumbent president Nursultan Nazarbayev won the elections with 79.78% of the votes and remained in the office for the next 7 years. The only opposition candidate Serikbolsyn Abdildin (Communist Party of Kazakhstan) received 11.7% of the votes.
