On August 29, by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan the Semipalatinsk Test Site was officially closed, nuclear explosions on the territory of Kazakhstan were stopped once and for all. This was followed by the international moratorium on nuclear weapons tests: test site in Russia (Novaya Zemlya), USA (Nevada), France (atoll Moruroa) and China (Lop Nor) also were closed.
