The round table on “Participation of Kazakhs in the World War II in Western European countries” was conducted on December 24, 2014 in Almaty

The round table was organized by the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the League of Professional Historians and Social Scientists Public Association.

The event was attended by prominent scholars and public figures of the republic and foreign guests from the USA, Bulgaria and Tatarstan.

"Zar", a documentary film dedicated to prisoners of fascist camps, was presented to participants of the round table.

The year 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people in the World War II. Participation of Kazakhs in this War is still poorly studied. It is known that Kazakhs fought on many fronts of the World War II. However, there is lack of information on their contribution to the resistance movements in the territory of occupied European countries and Germany. These heroic pages of contemporary history still remain unrevealed for people in Kazakhstan. Reporters of the round table examined preliminary research findings of Kazakhstani scientists, memories of veterans of the World War II and relatives of those Kazakhs who participated in resistance movements in Western European countries.
