The meeting of a special commission of the Ministry of Culture and Information on the problem of preserving the ancient city Sarayshyk was held in Atyrau.

This ancient city that stood on the Silk Road is located along the bank of the Ural River. Every spring a few meters of the square of the site goes under the water. If measures would not be taken, then in a few years nothing will remain from Sarayshyk.

But this unique monument of historical heritage is of a great importance, more than 14 thousand tourists, many of whom are foreigners, annually visit this historical place.

The two options of recovery of the city were offered during the conference on the problem of Sarayshyk. The first one involves the construction of a concrete embankment, which will not allow the water to wash away the shore. The second option is to change the channel of the river. Both options found its supporters and detractors. Now it's up to the committee members who will choose the best option, and submit it to the Government. After that the government will make its decision on the allocation of funds to save a unique monument.
