To invite members of the Institute of History of State to participate in different events has become a good tradition in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Nazarbayev University. New Dean Doctor Daniel Pugh continues this tradition. This year, our research staff visited a number of seminars and conferences on various subjects: history and religion, linguistics and political science.

On Tuesday, November 19, 2013 the staff of the Department of Eurasianism and Comparative Political Studies were invited to the special event when Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan, Mr. Peck Chuhen delivered a lecture on «History of Economic Development of the Republic of Korea and bilateral relations between the Republic of Korea and the Republic of Kazakhstan». The lecture of the Ambassador was accompanied by the video of modern Korea, interesting facts about the history and the present country. Mr. Peck Chuhen began his lecture by saying that scientists of the world conduct their studies showing common genome of Central Asian nations. The lecturer also noted that our nations have much in common in history, including the structure and grammar of Korean and Kazakh languages.

By the way, Mr. Peck Chuhen is a Doctor in History, so it is not surprising that many issues were covered with a historical perspective. The most interesting part of the seminar was the questions of participants. The high level of English language of students at Nazarbayev University is supplemented by the same level of knowledge in Economics.

Interesting dialogue covered the condition of Historical Science in modern Korea. The history of the Republic of Korea, like in Kazakhstan, requires a rethinking of some issues, the speaker noted. During personal discussion the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan noted that we need to seek common ground and common roots. Mr. Peck Chuhen gladly accepted the invitation to meet scientists of our Institute.

The event ended with special classes in Korean language, including the basics of calligraphy and specificity of Korean cosmetics, which were organized by the Korean Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. It should be noted that such events will not only expand the horizons of knowledge, but also provide an opportunity to touch the traditions and culture of the nations.
