It’s a rectangular, wooden building, sheathed with batten. The windows are framed by carved aprons. A sample of wooden architecture of the public buildings in Verniy city (now Almaty). The Museum of national musical instruments named after Ykylas (former House of Officers) is situated in Almaty, and has been built in 1908 on the project of A.P Zenkov.

The type of the monument:

The former House of Officers is an architectural monument. A sample of wooden architecture of the public buildings in the city of Verniy (now Almaty).

The description of the monument:

It’s a rectangular, wooden building, sheathed with batten. The windows are framed by carved aprons. The facades of the building are lavishly decorated with the wood carving. The space-planning decision is three-axis, the facades of the building are combined with resalit.

The central Risalit is topped with the tent; there are some gable roofs on the side of the lateral risalits. The main entrance is decorated with the keel-shaped canopyleaning on the fretted poles. The planning of the building has undergone some changes without a proper restoration.

In 1979, the carved elementsthemed on the national ornament were added as a part of the decoration of facades.  

The Historical Background:

The original purpose: The House of Officers. In 1913 it was the exhibition hall for the first agricultural and industrial exhibitions of Semirechye. In 1918 - the post and telegraph office. Later it was the “Red Star” movie theater. Overall, it was a sample of wooden architecture of the public buildings in Verniy city (now Almaty). The Museum of national musical instruments named after Ykylas (former House of Officers) was built in Almaty, and based on the project of A.P Zenkov.
