May 13,1930, by the resolution of Council of People’s Commissars was formed Karlag on the territory of the county Karkaralinsk district, where it was given 110 hectares of the land.The management of the Karaganda camp was in the village Dolinka 45 km from Karaganda. When Karlag opened it had 2567 prisoners of 47 nationalities. In 1933, the number increased by 20 262, including 2 943 Kazakhs. In 1937- 1938, it already had 43 thousand prisoners. At the system of Karlag were 292 production points and 26 independent offices. About 1 million of people were in Karlag from 1931 to 1960. Beside Karlag on the territory of Kazakhstan were camps like Stepnoy,(Степной), Peschany,(Песчаный),Lugovoy,(Луговой),Dalnii (Дальний) and others.
