The Kingdom of Sweden recognized the state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On January 16, 1992, the Kingdom of Sweden recognized the state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and on April 7 of the same year, the two countries established diplomatic relations. The bilateral political relations between Kazakhstan and Sweden are not highly intensive and characterized as friendly.

  The first official visit of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev to Sweden took place on October 25-26, 2004.

  The First Deputy Prime Minister of Sweden B. Ringholm, visited Kazakhstan on February 20-22, 2006, with a delegation of Swedish businessmen.

  The Swedish delegation, headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden K. Bildt, took part at the OSCE summit in Astana.

On June 11-12, 2011, a small Kurultaj of the Kazakhs in Europe was held in the city of Vasterod, with the help of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the World Association of Kazakhs, Kazakh cultural association in Sweden and the Federation of the Kazakh Diaspora in Europe.

The aim of the event was to connect a new generation of Diaspora to the Kazakh language, heritage and culture, as well as to express the main guidelines, which were voiced by the President of the World Association of Kazakhs, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, during the fourth World kurultaj of the Kazakhs, which was held on May 25-27 2012, in Astana.
